Remember 9/11, but 9/12, Too

Today, Facebook will be filled with 'never forget 9/11' posts. But I'm sad to say that we've already forgotten what that day meant. Sure, one day out of the year, we stick flag pins in our lapels and post pictures of the now fallen towers gleaming in sunlight. But on 9/12, we go right back to the partisan political bickerking that only divides us even further. So when tomorrow rolls around, I ask you to remember what you did on 9/12 eleven years ago, too. Remember the kindness we showed each other in the wake of that attack. Remember the value we placed in each other, if only for a short time, as Americans and as human beings. And if you have a political point of view, by all means express it passionatley, but do so in a civil fashion. This country deserves a better, more productive type of political discourse than the negative bashing we've had to endure these past 20 years. Both parties are guilty of it. And it's up to us to stop it. So, by all means remember 9/11, but please don't forget the unity we had on 9/12. Remember it and do what you can to restore it.
